A root canal is a procedure that works to prevent tooth loss. The “pulp”, or the inner part of a tooth that consists of blood vessels and nerves can sometimes get infected due to cracks in the tooth, deep cavities, grinding of the teeth (bruxism) or the general aging process. If this infection is allowed to continue, it will cause pain and swelling, as well as irreversible damage to your tooth and surrounding bone structure and could create health problems. By performing a root canal procedure, the infected tissue will be safely removed and the infection will go away. When properly managed, root canal procedures can be performed painlessly!
HOW DO I CARE FOR TEETH THAT HAVE HAD ROOT CANALS PERFORMED ON THEM?
Even though the root canal procedure we perform restores your tooth back to its natural feel and function, these teeth should be protected with a crown. Teeth treated with a root canal no longer have a blood supply and therefore are more brittle. A crown offers protection against fracturing the tooth. Root canal teeth need to be cared for just like any other natural tooth. Consistent brushing, flossing and regular check-ups with a dentist will work to eliminate harmful bacteria, keeping all your teeth healthy and strong.
